The Fits: gender, sports and stereotypes – standing out and fitting in

The Fits is a new release film I adored, for its mesmeric and poetic aural and visual affect as well as its treatment of complicated gender politics in adolescence. I wrote about it for the BFI, and the post was re-published on Conversations About Cinema.

Sunday May 28th I’ll be joining Kelli Weston and Elinor Cleghorn at the Phoenix Cinema in East Finchley to talk more about the film.

Berlinale 2017; Kitty Green interview on Casting JonBenet plus review of Bruce LaBruce’s The Misandrists, Cate Shortland’s Berlin Syndrome and Stanley Tucci’s Final Portrait

At this year’s Berlinale I joined filmmaker Kitty Green to talk about her brilliant and provocative new documentary, Casting JonBenet for Monocle 24’s The Cinema Show, aired February 17. I also reviewed Cate Shortland’s new dramatic thriller Berlin Syndrome, Stanley Tucci’s artist biopic Final Portrait and Bruce LaBruce’s new feminist, lesbian, soft-core satire The Misandrists.
